Is Plenty of Fish any good if you're over 60?
It's big, familiar and open to every age. Here's when that helps, and when it doesn't.
It can be. Plenty of Fish is a Match Group app for every adult from 18, known for free messaging, with selfie verification, so after 60 you'll be searching a crowd of all ages. Single 60s is the focused choice: built only around Australians over 60, with friendship welcome and free ID checks.

Every age, or just your own?
Plenty of Fish started in 2003, was bought by Match Group in 2015, and is open to anyone over 18. It isn't built around any particular age; it's one big pool, and you narrow it with search. If you're happy to set your age range and work through the results, that size can be an advantage, and you may already know people who use it.
Single 60s starts from the other end. The site exists for people over 60, and among our Australian members aged 55 and over, more than half are 65 or older. Nine in ten of the men are 55 or older. Members choose friendship, romance or both, and they can pick interests such as cruises, DIY, meditation or family life, so it's easier to find something in common. If you're past 70, our page on dating over 70 may help too.
Is Plenty of Fish free, and is Single 60s?
Plenty of Fish has long been known as free to message, with paid extras for those who want them. That's one of its real strengths.
Single 60s is free to join and a free account is a usable one: a full profile, browsing, daily matches, posts and polls, a set number of messages each day, and replies to anyone on a paid plan. VIP lifts the message limit and adds advanced search by city and distance, members-only chat rooms and private group chats. Prices for every plan are on the pricing page.
Keeping your inbox calm
On a large all-ages app, the number of messages can be a lot, and Plenty of Fish lets you restrict how many first messages you get, which is a sensible touch. Single 60s is a smaller community. You can block anyone instantly, report from their profile, and your email address is never shown. Members give one-click feedback that feeds a reputation score, so people who behave badly stand out.
Photo checks and scam warnings
Plenty of Fish offers Selfie Verification so you can see who's behind a profile, and its owner, Match Group, is a signatory to Australia's voluntary online dating safety code, in force since October 2024. Those are good signs on a service of its size.
On Single 60s the government ID check is free and earns a Verified badge, and a short live video check with a moderator works if you'd rather not upload a document. Photos, videos and text are screened as they're uploaded, by software and by people, and a warning appears when someone tries to take your chat to WhatsApp or another app, which is a common early step in romance scams. Our guide to romance scams over 60 lists the warning signs.
When Plenty of Fish makes more sense
Choose Plenty of Fish if you're open to a wide age range, want a downloadable app, or simply want the largest crowd to search through. Choose Single 60s if you'd rather everyone you meet is in your stage of life, or if friendship matters as much as romance. Both are free to join, so it costs nothing to try them side by side.
