Questionnaire or browsing: how would you rather meet people?

eharmony's whole approach rests on its Compatibility Quiz. Every member answers it, and the Compatibility Matching System uses your answers to put suggested matches in front of you. Your profile has to be at least half complete before it's shown. If you like the idea of a service doing the sifting, and you don't mind spending some time on questions first, that's a genuine strength.

Single 60s asks less of you up front. You set the age range, distance and type of relationship you're after, and each day you get suggestions that weigh those against interests, lifestyle habits such as smoking and drinking, and religious beliefs. You can also browse and search for yourself straight away. Some people prefer to see who is out there before answering anything; others like being guided. Neither is wrong.

What can you say to someone without paying?

eharmony's Basic membership is free when you join. According to its Australian app listing, a Basic member can send a Like and a first message, and swapping messages back and forth comes with Premium.

On Single 60s a free account has a daily allowance of messages, so a conversation can actually get going, and anything a VIP member sends you can be read and answered free. VIP removes the limit and adds advanced search, chat rooms and seeing who likes you. All our plans and prices are on the pricing page before you sign up, and it says plainly which ones renew.

Who's behind each site

eharmony has been around since 2000 and today belongs to ParshipMeet Group. Its Australian site has a senior dating section, and its footer links to Australia's online dating safety code and a transparency report. ParshipMeet is among the companies that signed that voluntary code, which began on 1 October 2024. That's a solid footing for a large, established service.

Single 60s has been running in Australia since 2014 and is built only around people over 60. It is independently owned and runs on the HubPeople platform, which provides the free ID check, the live video check with a moderator, profile validation, and screening of every photo and post. Members appear under a username, and only their nearest town or city is shown. Read more on our safety page.

What did the Federal Court find about eharmony?

If you've seen this in the news, here is what happened. On 25 August 2026, ruling on a case the ACCC brought, the Federal Court held that eharmony had misled Australians over its "free" membership, its automatic renewals and how cancellation worked. The findings cover past conduct, and some of eharmony's price display was changed in 2024. Penalties are still to be decided.

When eharmony is the better choice

If you're under 60, or open to meeting someone younger, eharmony's all-ages membership gives you far more people to consider. If you'd rather answer a questionnaire and be handed matches than browse, its system is built for exactly that. And if a downloadable app matters to you, it has one for iPhone and Android. If you're over 60 and want a smaller community of people your own age, where friendship counts too, give Single 60s a try alongside it.
