SeniorMatch or Single 60s: which is right for you?

Two sites for older Australians who'd like some company. One difference decides most of it.

SeniorMatch is a 50-plus site with an Australian page, apps and a social-only option, run by the same company as SilverSingles. Its free members can reply to Premium members but can't start a conversation. Single 60s is built for people over 60, and a free account can start a few conversations every day.

Can you start a conversation without paying?

This is the difference most people notice first. SeniorMatch's own help pages say a free member can create a profile, browse members, view profiles, and receive and reply to messages from Premium members. What a free member can't do is start a new conversation. So if you see someone you like, either they write to you first or you upgrade.

Single 60s works the other way round. A free account comes with a set number of messages each day, so you can say hello to someone who catches your eye, and you can also read and reply to anything a VIP member sends. A week of real conversations tells you more about a site than any amount of browsing. If you'd like unlimited messages later, every plan is on the pricing page.

Looking for a travel mate, a friend or a partner?

SeniorMatch does this well. You can join for social and dating, or for social contact only, and its Australian page has sections for travel mates and activity partners. If you're mostly after someone to share a trip or a regular walk with, that structure is helpful.

On Single 60s the same choice sits on your profile: friendship, romance or both. Interests members pick from include cruises, volunteering, documentaries, handicrafts and long conversations, which gives you something to open with. Our page on friendship after 60 explains how it works.

Who gets to message you, and how you're protected

SeniorMatch says contact is limited to members who have passed its check, using a selfie-video photo check, though it notes that check may not be available to every member. It's also clear that it doesn't run background checks on members.

Single 60s takes a different route to the same goal. The ID check is free and earns a Verified badge, or you can do a short live video check with a moderator instead of sending a document. The team validates profiles, uploads are screened by software and people, and a warning pops up if someone tries to move your chat to WhatsApp. Only your nearest town or city is shown, never your address or email. The details are on our safety page.

Same company as SilverSingles: does that matter?

SeniorMatch's copyright line goes back to 2001, and the site describes itself as one of a group of affiliated dating sites. Its operator, SuccessfulMatch, now runs SilverSingles as well. For you, that mostly means the two will feel similar in their rules, so if you're comparing them, the bigger choice is between a 50-plus site and one built for the over 60s.

When SeniorMatch could be the better pick

If you're between 50 and 60, SeniorMatch will put more people your age in front of you. If you want a download from the App Store or Google Play, it has both. And if you like the idea that nobody can write to you until they have passed a check, that rule is built in. If you're over 60 and want to be able to make the first move without paying, Single 60s is worth trying alongside it.

SeniorMatch questions Australians ask

Is SeniorMatch free?

SeniorMatch is free to join, and free members can create a profile, browse and reply to messages from Premium members. Free members cannot start new conversations.

Is SeniorMatch the same as SilverSingles?

They are separate sites with the same operator, SuccessfulMatch. Both require members to be at least 50 and both have Australian landing pages.

Does SeniorMatch work in Australia?

Yes. SeniorMatch has an Australian page with links for each state, including the Northern Territory, and its app is in the Australian App Store.

Can I use Single 60s just for friendship?
