Perth, Fremantle, Mandurah and Bunbury

Senior dating in Perth: find your person in the west

Singles over 60 across the west, from the river to the Peel.

In Perth, women are slightly ahead among Single 60s members over 55, and the men in that group are older: three in four have turned 65. Across Western Australia nearly all the men are over 55, while the women are a younger mix, with four in ten past 55.

What the Perth membership looks like

Western Australia has the youngest women of any state on the site. A quarter of them are in their late forties or early fifties, and fewer than half have reached 55. The men are the opposite: almost all are 55 or older, and most of those are 65 plus.

That gap is sharpest in Perth. Of the city's women over 55, only about a third have turned 65, against three quarters of the men. So a man of 70 who keeps his age range tight around his own will see fewer women than one who opens it down to the late fifties. A woman of 60 will find most of the older men here are a few years ahead of her, and may want to widen the top of her range accordingly.

Beyond the metro area, a handful of women have joined from Australind, near Bunbury.

Kings Park, then the train to Fremantle

If Perth has one first date that beats all the others, it is Kings Park and Botanic Garden. It is free, open around the clock, and the free 935 bus runs up from the city. The paths are flat, the views over the river and the city are hard to beat, and free guided walks set off every day at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm. Joining one takes the pressure off: a volunteer guide does the talking while the two of you get used to each other.

For a second date, take the train down to Fremantle. The Fremantle Markets, in a building from the late 1890s, open Friday to Sunday and on most public holidays, and they are free to wander. Fremantle Arts Centre on Finnerty Street is free too, with galleries open daily from 10am to 5pm, a café and lawns, all inside a neo-Gothic building from the 1860s.

Free trains and buses, but only from 65

Western Australia has moved its Seniors Card age from 60 to 65, and the change is now complete. You qualify at 65 if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in WA and are retired or work no more than 25 hours a week. If you are between 60 and 64, you will not have the card or the free travel that comes with it yet.

For those who do, the Seniors SmartRider makes Transperth free at set times: on weekdays before 6am, between 9am and 3.30pm, and from 7pm to the last service, and all day on weekends and public holidays. Outside those times you pay a concession fare. The card is free, though you need $10 loaded on it to use it in paid times.

Plan around those free windows and your search can safely stretch to Fremantle, Joondalup and the Mandurah line. A 10am meeting on a weekday costs nothing to get to. Further south, the Australind train runs to Bunbury in about two and a half hours, though it was replaced by coaches for a time until mid-2025, so check it is running before you plan a date around it.

More first date ideas around Perth

In the city

The Art Gallery of Western Australia in the Perth Cultural Centre is free and open from 10am to 5pm, but closed on Tuesdays, so do not pick a Tuesday.

South to the Peel and beyond

Mandurah's Eastern Foreshore has estuary walkways, shade, free barbecues and the cafés of the Boardwalk and Dolphin Quay. The council has foreshore works planned, so check before you go. The town is older than Perth, too: the Mandurah suburb had a median age of 50 at the 2021 Census. Further down, Bunbury Regional Art Gallery is free and housed in a pink former convent on Wittenoom Street, open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Our first date ideas for over 60s work well on the west coast too.

Seniors Week, and a club for every suburb

WA Seniors Week in 2026 runs from Sunday 8 to Sunday 15 November, and Seniors Card holders travel free throughout it. U3A Perth also runs 12 branches across the metro area, with more groups in Mandurah, Bunbury and Joondalup, if you would like to meet people over a shared interest as well.
