Senior dating in Melbourne: meet someone special over 60
Our busiest city for members over 55, and on a seniors myki your weekend trams are free.
Melbourne has more Single 60s members over 55 than any other Australian city, and here the women outnumber the men: about three women for every two men in that age group. The men tend to be older, with most past 65, while the women are mostly in their late fifties and sixties.
Are there more women than men over 60 in Melbourne?
Yes, and by a clear margin. Victoria is the only state where women make up a clear majority of our members over 55, close to six in ten, and Melbourne's own profiles show the same lean. That is good news for a man in his sixties or seventies.
There is an age gap to know about. Around six in ten Melbourne men over 55 have reached 65, compared with only about a third of the women over 55. So a woman of 62 who sets her age range from 60 to 68 may be filtering out a good number of the men who would suit her.
Geelong has a handful of members, mostly women. Down the road, Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff on the Bellarine have one of the oldest populations in the country, with a median age over 62, so a search that includes the Bellarine is worth a try.

Free weekends on a seniors myki
Since 1 January 2026, anyone travelling on a seniors myki rides free every Saturday and Sunday on all Victorian public transport. That means Melbourne's trains, trams and buses, and also V/Line trains, coaches and regional buses.
On weekdays you pay half the full fare, and you get free travel vouchers each year, two or four depending on where you live. On top of that, fares for everyone are halved from 1 June 2026 until 1 January 2027, which halves a senior's already reduced weekday fare again. After New Year that extra discount ends, but the free weekends carry on.
To get the seniors myki you need the Victorian Seniors Card. It is free if you are over 60, a permanent resident living in Victoria, and either retired or working fewer than 35 hours a week, and you can apply up to three weeks before your 60th birthday. People working longer hours get the Seniors Business Discount Card, which does not include travel.
For your search, this is the useful part. Bendigo is a little over ninety minutes from Southern Cross on an express train, and on a Saturday it costs a senior nothing to get there. Setting your distance to include Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo, and suggesting a weekend first meeting, opens up a much bigger pool at no extra cost.
Plan for four seasons in one afternoon
The Bureau of Meteorology explains why Melbourne's weather turns so fast: hot air from inland to the north, the Southern Ocean to the south, and cold fronts racing through on the westerlies. For a first date, that means two things. Bring a jacket, even on a warm morning. And have an indoor plan ready close by, so a sudden change becomes a reason to duck into a gallery together rather than a reason to cut things short.
First date ideas in Melbourne, rain or shine
When the sun is out
The Royal Botanic Gardens are free and, from October to March, open from 7.30am to 7.30pm. The lawns are wide, the lake paths are gentle and a tram from the city drops you close by. In Geelong, the art deco boardwalk at Eastern Beach runs past the old sea baths and shaded picnic spots, and carries on to the free Geelong Botanic Gardens.
When the clouds roll in
NGV International on St Kilda Road is free to walk round and open every day. Its Great Hall has a stained-glass ceiling some visitors lie on the floor to admire. The State Library Victoria is free to enter, and the domed La Trobe Reading Room is one of the quietest, loveliest rooms in the city. The City Circle tram costs nothing at all: sit back on a heritage tram and let the commentary do the talking past Parliament House and the Princess Theatre.
A free Saturday in the regions
The Art Gallery of Ballarat, founded in 1884, is the oldest regional gallery in Australia and free to enter. Bendigo Art Gallery on View Street is free as well, open daily from 10am to 5pm, has a café and opens straight onto Rosalind Park for a slow walk afterwards.
