Senior dating in Brisbane and South East Queensland
An even mix of men and women over 55, and a 50 cent fare to meet them.
Brisbane's Single 60s members over 55 are close to an even split of women and men, and about half of them are 65 or older. Across Queensland the men are almost all past 55, and more of the women are over 55 than in any other state.
A 50 cent fare to any first date in the South East
Every Translink trip in South East Queensland costs 50 cents, however far you go. That covers trains (though not the Airtrain), buses, ferries, trams and on-demand services, and urban buses in 14 regional areas as well. The fare started as a trial in August 2024 and was later made permanent. Nobody needs a card to get it.
For a dating profile in Brisbane, this changes how far is too far. The Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich are a train ride away for the price of a coin, so a match in Nambour or Helensvale is no longer out of reach. Set your search distance to cover the whole South East.
Seniors in Brisbane get a little more. Brisbane City Council buses and ferries are free for seniors off peak: weekdays from 8.30am to 3.30pm and from 7pm to 6am, plus all day on weekends and public holidays. Tap on with a senior go card or a Seniors Card +go, which has the Seniors Card on one side and a go card on the other and needs no deposit.
Who is looking for company in Brisbane?
Of all the capitals, Brisbane comes closest to a fair split. Among our members here who are over 55, women are only just in front.
Queensland's members are an older group. Practically all the men on the site here are over 55, the highest share of any mainland state, and more than half the women are too. If you are in your late sixties or seventies, you will find plenty of people at the same stage of life.
Outside Brisbane, the Gold Coast has a handful of members, mostly women and mostly over 55, while Ipswich and Hervey Bay each have a few men. Hervey Bay and the wider Fraser Coast had a median age of 51 at the last Census, and Bribie Island is one of the five oldest areas in the country, so a search that follows the coast makes sense.
Good places for a first meeting in Brisbane
On the river
QAGOMA at South Bank, which covers the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art, is free, including most exhibitions, and open daily from 10am to 5pm with cafés inside. From South Bank, hop on the free CityHopper ferry and drift down to Howard Smith Wharves for a drink by the water.
Up the hill, out of the heat
Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha cover 56 hectares of subtropical planting with plenty of shade, and they are free. From September to March they open from 8am to 6pm. It is cooler up there than in the city.
Along the coast and inland
On the Gold Coast, HOTA Gallery at Surfers Paradise holds one of the largest art collections outside a capital city and is free, though it may ask you to book. Since 9 August 2026 the G:link tram runs all the way to Burleigh Heads, so a 50 cent ride ends at the headland and the beach. On the Sunshine Coast, the Mooloolaba Esplanade boardwalk to the river mouth is wide, paved, lit and lined with seats. Ipswich Art Gallery is free and open seven days. Up at Hervey Bay, the walk to the end of Urangan Pier takes ten minutes or so, with views across to K'gari.
Can I get a Queensland Seniors Card at 60?
Usually not until 65. The Queensland Seniors Card, and the Seniors Card +go, are for permanent residents aged 65 or older who work under 35 hours a week. Between 60 and 64 you can get one if you also hold a Pensioner Concession Card, a Health Care Card or a DVA Gold, White or Orange card. Anyone over 60 can have the Seniors Business Discount Card, which is for discounts only.
October is a good month to put yourself about. Queensland Seniors Month runs from 1 to 31 October, and in 2026 it marks 65 years with the theme "Connect and celebrate". Local events are a ready-made outing for a second date, or simply a way to meet people face to face. U3A groups in Brisbane, Southport and Sippy Downs offer the same all year round.
